Same chair, 4 different students, 4 different classes in the same day.
Over the course of February 11th, an unsuspecting White 8 day, the same chair in classroom 213 was used by different students in 4 different classes. I spoke with these four students who all sat in the same seat in the back right of the room, asking them about their day, their classes, and a little about themselves. Even though they may not all know each other, their experiences overlapped in small ways, showing how one seat can hold many different perspectives in just a single day. I interviewed each student briefly at the start of each class.
Block 8
The first student interviewed was Paddy Keller. He was in Mr. Carter’s English class. In class that day they had a reading quiz over Black Swan Green. Paddy said he would “recommend the book” to any new readers. Outside of school, Paddy is preparing for the track season. In the fall, he prefers to run cross country which is his “area of expertise compared to track.”
This season went well according to Paddy, where he saw improvement from last year in the team. When asked what his favorite flavor of ice cream is, he went with pecan ice cream. I asked him if he had any advice to pass on to the next student in this seat in the next block. His response was “Good Luck.”
Block 5
The Block 5 student interviewed in this seat was Landon Boland. He was in Mr. Mouser’s History class. It was a regular class day today, with no quizzes or tests. Landon plays soccer in the fall, and loves watching sports. He said that he had a good time this fall, and is looking forward to next season. To anyone after him in this seat, he said to “pay attention in class.” I also told him that Paddy had told him good luck today, and he said he definitely appreciated it.
Block 6
The next student in this seat was Liam Brady, who was in another one of Mr. Mousers history classes. He claims that there was not much going on in class today, “just notes, that’s about it.” Outside of school, Liam does band. He did not have any advice to the student in the last block, which was disappointing, but did take the advice to pay attention in class given by Landon. Also when asked about his favorite flavor of ice cream, he said it was mint chocolate chip.
Block 7
The last student interviewed was AJ Brown. Last block he was “feeling great,” and definitely feeling good about getting out of school. In class, they went over Chapter 8 of Black Swan Green. Also in class AJ did “decent but, could have done better,” on a Membean quiz. He sat next to a certain Luca Daly, who also seemed to be excited to get out of school that day. I told him about his fellow junior, Paddy Keller’s favorite ice cream flavor being pecan. To that, AJ responded “He’s a weirdo”
Thank you to all the students who were interviewed, and good luck to everyone in that chair and every chair in the school moving through the rest of the semester.
