Chaminade presents Anything Goes as their all-school musical from February 13th– 15th at 7:00 p.m. The timeless classic has music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The story follows several antics among various characters (from the charismatic nightclub singer, Reno Sweeney, to the goofy gangster – ‘Public Enemy No. 13’ – Moonface Martin) aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London. It debuted on Broadway in 1937 at the Alvin Theatre (now known as Neil Simon). The show returned for revivals on Broadway in 1987 and 2011 – when actress Sutton Foster played Reno.
Avery Bengtson, Eureka High School ’25 (Hope Harcourt) has performed in Chaminade productions since her freshman year, starring in Philadelphia, Here I Come!, Pippin, Curtains, The Crucible, and Oklahoma! “CCP Drama has truly been my family over the last four years. It is the most supportive atmosphere and my favorite high school theatre memories are always at Chaminade. The shows are amazing, and I feel so lucky to perform on such a beautiful stage, surrounded by an amazing cast, crew, and production team,” she said
Jake Young ’29 (Sailor) says, “The show has been coming along very well, and I’m so excited to perform. My favorite songs to do are ‘Blow, Gabriel, Blow’, and ‘Anything Goes’”. Jake was last seen playing the title role in Chaminade’s middle school production, Shrek the Musical, last year!
Leia Yogi, Parkway South High School ’26 (Erma) is performing in her first Chaminade production. She says, “The people of CCP Drama are so welcoming and I have made many new friends in the cast. The environment is very professional but fun!” Leia is no stranger to the professional industry, however. She is a MUNY Teen who played Flounder in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and performed in the Teen Ensemble of In the Heights during MUNY’s 106th season.
Tap dancing is an aspect to the production’s choreography that was new to most of the cast.
Kaveon Mitchell ’26 (Fred, Sailor) says, “Tapping was very challenging at first, but the more I did it in rehearsal, the easier it became. Time steps are my favorite move to do.” He is excited to be working alongside an incredible cast and crew!
You can still catch the show on Friday, the 14th, or Saturday, the 15th, both at 7:00 p.m. Purchase tickets on Chaminade’s website… Remember, they are free to all CCP students and staff!
