The Cardinal and White staff recently engaged in a heated discussion about the best Thanksgiving foods. Emotions were running high and passionate opinions were being flung around the room like food in a cafeteria war. Some people didn’t know whether non-Thanksgiving foods could make it to the list, and everyone had an opinion. Listed below were the final conclusions, yet the debates continue to rage on.
- Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
While most people felt it was an iconic Thanksgiving feature, Dr. Bryant said, “It is just baby food.”
2. Turkey
This is the center of the Thanksgiving meal so to give it less than second place would be disrespectful. However, Owen Rutherford ’26 said, “People have turkey on sandwiches everyday.”
3. Stuffing
While it didn’t make the original list, stuffing is a top side dish for a Thanksgiving dinner. However, Ben Hiatt ’26 says, “It is just flavorless bread.”
4. Rolls
Everyone loved the idea of a nice Thanksgiving roll, but should it be in the top 5? You can have rolls with plenty of meals. Connor Moore ’26 says, “It’s even more flavorless bread.”
5. Pumpkin Pie
Finally, it wouldn’t be a true top 5 without a dessert option. The debate was between apple pie and pumpkin pie. Ethan McDaniel ’26 said, “This should be number 1.” However, Mr. Schilly preferred apple pie and even said, “I make an apple pie every year. I make the crust and everything.” Some questioned whether people even like his dish though.
