Looking ahead, this upcoming week will begin the 2024 Rowdy Red Raffle. The raffle raises nearly two hundred thousand dollars each year which goes solely to a project that will benefit the student and faculty body.
In the past few years, the money has been spent on furniture around the classrooms, atrium, and most recently in the commons. However, this year the money will be spent on building a multi-purpose sport court in the location of Frische Hall. As the construction of the new resident building is almost complete, it means that the old building will need to be taken down. Additionally, Frische Hall will be torn down which will leave a lot of open space with no purpose. This new sport court will allow students from the resident halls, those in atrium, and those waiting for rides outside to all come together for recreation. Currently after school you may find a lot of middle school students hanging out near the pickup area in between Chaminade Hall and the Skip Center. The creation of a new sport court will be a better location for everyone to go to than to just throwing a football around the street.
The new sport court will be versatile for whatever activities the students want to engage in. A net could be put in place to play pickleball on the court, while having the net down would allow students to play basketball. The courts will also be an upgrade from the current outdoor basketball courts on the old tennis courts and in a more convenient location for people to go to after school.
However, the Rowdy Red Raffle is more than just a fundraiser for a final project and instead it is a chance for students and their families and friends to win up to $10,000 dollars. Every ticket a student purchases is an additional chance to win. Additionally, the raffle will provide personal benefits at different levels such as food each day. The benefits even extend into the house system and to the mentor groups with the highest tickets sold.
Overall, the Rowdy Red Raffle is a unique fundraiser for the school because it goes back into direct benefits for the students. At the same time, the raffle provides a competition for the students to participate in. The raffle is a well-liked program with a student involvement that makes it a unique experience at Chaminade.
