Tylend Robertson. You probably know him for his star-studded football performance on the field or his habit of blasting music through his headphones while roaming the halls. But do you know about his secret identity, that of the music artist Tx4?
Since 2023, Tylend has been dropping music on Spotify under the moniker of Tx4. He first dropped the single “Two Watches!” and later dropped his EP WHERE’S 54, featuring the hit song “Unethical!” Overall, Tylend has had a prolific music run since 2023; he has dropped five singles, an EP, and, as of September 6, his first full-length album, KL0SURĒ.
KL0SURĒ is a unique project that demonstrates Tylend’s versatility as an artist. Tylend starts off the album with “Splash!” which has a very chill pace to it while still being energetic and engaging. Then the album goes into “Al Capone” which has a nearly opposite vibe, being a classic rap hype song, repeating the iconic line, “I just pulled up with that stick I feel like Al Capone.”
Tylend also wears his influences on his sleeve, best shown by “Star Freestyle,” which sounds like a classic Lil Tecca banger. Tylend continues the project with some more chill songs, such as “4 Inna Morning,” which features a memorable feature by Real Kota. Tylend is even able to hit the polar opposite of the vibe established in “Al Capone” and “Star Freestyle,” with the song “Already Know” featuring a somber beat and an overall sadder tone than the rest of the album. It is very reminiscent of emo rap and the beats of artists such as XXXTentacion and Lil Peep. It’s clear he is a versatile and quality artist, but what is the true thought process and future of Tx4?
I interviewed Tylend to get the inside scoop on KL0SURĒ and his general music career.
- What inspired you to start making music?
“Honestly, music has always been a big part of my life, I’m always the kid that takes his headphones everywhere and has a 30-hour playlist. Really, I was bored and I decided to start making it on a whim. Real Kota, Tayizian, and JLove really helped me get started and taught me the basics of everything so shout out to them.”
- What are your biggest musical inspirations (specific artists/albums/songs)?
“My biggest one right now is Autumn. I’ve been listening to him for a while now and my style revolves around him. Real Kota definitely had his marks on my style as well.”
- Do you produce your own music, or do you get your beats from someone else?
“I get my beats from YouTube. I also know a couple of producers that I’ve used beats from as well, but mainly free beats.”
- When do you find time to make music?
“Mainly on days where I have nothing to do, and an idea pops up about a good song I can make. Like the idea of some of the songs off KL0SURĒ just happened while I was chilling at 3am, where I got the idea to find a beat and make lyrics too, so I could record the following day.”
- What’s your favorite song that you’ve made off KL0SURĒ?
“Either ‘Already Know’ or ‘You & Me’. I feel like ‘Already Know’ solidified my style of songs and what a typical Tx4 song sounds like, but ‘You & Me’ was a completely different approach and was really an experiment that ended up going well. Statistically though ‘Al Capone’ is my best song, which I disagree with. Honestly, that was just a filler song but it’s good, nonetheless.”
- Favorite song of all time?
“That’s definitely a difficult question, if I had to choose it’d have to be between ‘Still The Same’ by Autumn, or ‘B**** Don’t Kill My Vibe’ by Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z. ‘Still the Same’ was the song that got me really into Autumn, and I thought the beat switch and flow switch was one of the best things ever. I also grew up on rappers like Kendrick and J.Cole because of my dad always liking those rappers, and one of the songs that got me into music in general was that one.”
- How do you feel about the reception for your new album KL0SURĒ?
“I feel great about it. I feel like it was a great project that got out there and a lot of people enjoyed it from what I heard, so I’m definitely proud of it.”
- When can we expect new Tx4 music?
“Won’t say too much, but a KL0SURĒ Deluxe is definitely a possibility, and I’ve been working on a lil something with my boy Real Kota, so be on the watch for those.”
Go follow Tylend on Spotify or Youtube, stream KL0SURĒ, and get ready for new Tx4 music in the near future.
