CCP Basketball Update

Chaminade basketball continued its season with a massive MCC rivalry game against CBC on Friday night and a game against O’Fallon on Saturday.  Unfortunately, Chaminade were defeated 76-67 against CBC and 55-50 against O’Fallon.  The teams went into the games having picked up big wins against Vianney and DeSmet in January, beating the Griffins 78-48 and the Spartans 64-41. Against our Marianist rival, Nilavan Daniels ‘23 scored 30 points while Colin Keller ’25 picked up 18 points. Nilavan has been a star player for the Red Devils this year, averaging over 20 points per game, which leads the team. Nilavan also leads the team in rebounds, followed by Ben Winker ’25.

The atmosphere at the rivalry games was spectacular with full student sections from both schools. I always love watching the game and yelling out the classic chants of the Red Army in the stands. Last Friday’s game against SLUH was the date of the annual McBride Night. Alumni of McBride High School filled the stands and watched as each player donned the iconic orange and green jerseys in honor of the school. Although a difficult 72-69 loss, the game had everyone in the Athletictron on the edge of their seat as the Red Devils nearly came back from a 9-point deficit in the final 15 seconds, which included a narrow buzzer beater miss from BJ Ward ’23, who has another core part of the Red Devils team this season. He is second in total points for Chaminade this season. Chaminade now enters the home stretch of the regular season tonight at SLUH at 6:00 pm, hoping to gain momentum for the looming playoffs. The Red Devils also have rematches at Vianney on Friday and at DeSmet on February 17th.
